WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) today announced a $632,593 grant to the city of Florence, Ala., to provide the necessary water and wastewater infrastructure to support the development of a new, state-of-the-art regional medical center that will serve a nine-county region in Alabama, Tennessee, and Mississippi.

“The Economic Development Administration is committed to supporting competitive local projects designed to spur job creation and economic growth,” said Jay Williams, U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development. “The North Alabama Medical Center project is expected to help retain approximately 972 full-time jobs, create 50 new jobs, and generate $225 million in private investment.”

The new North Alabama Medical Center will replace the existing Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital and will provide 300 beds to help serve local healthcare needs.
